How to grow garlic

Garlic is one the easiest crops that you can grow. It's just as easy to grow in pots as it is in the ground.
Step 1: Plant close to the autumn equinox or when the days start shortening and the nights become cooler. Gently split the garlic bulb into individual cloves.

Step 2: Add quality compost or manure to your garden bed. Try to choose a garden bed in full sun. Then make a small hole that is 8cm deep for each clove.

Step 3: Place each clove with the pointy end up. Cover around the clove and cover the hole with mulch. You should see green shots in about 2 weeks.

Step 4: You can harvest once the foliage starts to die back and turn brown. Store bulbs in a cool, dry place and they'll last up to 8 months. I always split up my bulbs for the next season.
